Greetings, fellow tinkerers and DIY enthusiasts! Today’s video marks another exciting chapter in the journey of building my steampunk-style arcade table. Join me as I share the latest updates on the project, including the construction of the joystick plate and overcoming unexpected challenges along the way.

Introduction: In today’s video, I’m thrilled to provide you with an update on my steampunk arcade table build, featuring the transformation of a vintage wooden treasure chest and the crafting of unique components like the joystick plate. If you’re new here, welcome aboard! Be sure to check out the previous videos in this series for a complete overview of the project.

Lifting the Treasure Chest: As some of you may recall from the last video, I encountered a slight setback when the treasure chest turned out to be too short for its intended purpose. However, I quickly devised a solution by building a frame to lift it up to the desired height. Despite a mismatch in stain color initially, a bit of experimentation and creativity with a blowtorch yielded the perfect result, seamlessly blending the frame with the chest’s exterior.

Crafting the Joystick Plate: One of the highlights of this week’s progress was the construction of the joystick plate and buttons. Drawing inspiration from a brass door push found on Amazon, I meticulously planned the layout using design software and transferred it onto the push plate. While drilling the pilot holes proved to be a bit challenging, I managed to overcome minor alignment issues and proceeded with the installation of the buttons and joystick.

Innovative Solutions and Creative Adaptation: As with any DIY project, unexpected hurdles presented themselves along the way. From melted plastic during drilling to the challenge of finding the perfect crystal top for the joystick, each obstacle was met with innovative solutions and creative adaptation. Through trial and error, I successfully transformed brass bathroom pull switch ends into custom joystick shafts, achieving the desired aesthetic for the steampunk arcade table.
Exciting Progress and Future Endeavors: With the completion of the joystick plate, I’m thrilled to see the project taking shape and moving closer to its final form. While there are still a few more tasks to tackle, including integrating the Vectrex console and finalizing the design details, the journey thus far has been both rewarding and fulfilling. Your continued support, encouragement, and feedback drive me to push the boundaries of creativity and craftsmanship.
