My Experience with the Volamart Rear Wheel Drive E-Bike Conversion Kit

DIY E-Bikes

Hello and welcome to another Artful budget video! Today, I’m excited to share my review of the Volamart rear wheel drive e-bike conversion kit. I’ve had this bike for about three years now, and as much as I love it, it’s time to make space in my garage. But before I part ways with it, I wanted to give you a quick rundown of my experience with this conversion kit.

Fitting the kit wasn’t too difficult, especially if you’re familiar with basic bike maintenance. The main component of the kit is the rear wheel, which you replace with the one provided, complete with a motor in the middle. Additionally, you get a screen to control the system, new brake levers with micro switches, a controller for the screen, and an optional twist throttle. While the kit comes with a bag for excess cables and the controller box, I opted for a separately bought plastic case for better waterproofing.

Speaking of waterproofing, that’s one of the downsides of this kit out of the box. The connections aren’t waterproof, but with a little DIY effort, I managed to make them waterproof using heat shrink. Once everything was set up, it was time to take it for a spin.

Let me tell you, riding this e-bike is an absolute blast! It’s a significant step up from the 250-watt e-bikes I’ve tried before. With a constant urge to pull away, I found myself keeping the assistance at levels two or three, as level five was a bit too exhilarating for my taste. Despite my weight, the bike comfortably reaches around 20 miles per hour, which feels plenty fast, especially off-road.

During the ride, a couple of minor things stood out. Firstly, the motor cuts out when you apply the brakes, displaying an error message on the screen, which can be a bit alarming at first but is actually a safety feature. Secondly, there’s a slight delay when transitioning between using the throttle and pedal assist simultaneously, which, while not a deal-breaker, can be a tad annoying.

Overall, I can confidently say that this conversion kit offers an incredibly fun and powerful riding experience for the money. The combination of components provides a level of performance that would be hard to match without spending a fortune. Of course, getting the most out of it does require a bit of technical know-how, but once you’ve got it dialed in, it’s pure joy on two wheels.

If you’re in the market for an exciting mountain biking experience without breaking the bank, the Volamart rear wheel drive e-bike conversion kit is definitely worth considering. And if you want to dive deeper into optimizing your ride, be sure to check out my separate video on tweaking the bike’s settings.

Until next time, happy riding!
